Education
Money often is managed poorly in a non-competitive bureaucracy because there is no incentive to perform well. If schools overspend, they demand more money from the voters.
In the classroom, our students do not realize the opportunities before them to improve their lives and pursue their goals and dreams. Parents are often disconnected with educators and place parental expectations on the teachers. Currently, money is forcefully taken from the citizens of Arizona in order to pay the Department of Education, and school districts.
Imagine a pyramid and the money flowing from the top to the bottom. My plan is to reverse the flow of money in that same pyramid by starting at the bottom and going towards the top. This will empower teachers in the classroom and parents to make choices that are necessary for their students.
I am in support of eliminating the Department of Education and the numerous school districts throughout the state. Every school will be an autonomous entity and make financial decisions necessary for that school. If they manage their money poorly, the school will have to close.
Parents will have the ability to send their child to the school they seem suitable for their child. By eliminating income and property taxes, parents will have the necessary money to pay for the school of their choice. For those who are financially incapable of paying for education, scholarship programs will be provided for students who live at or below the poverty level. Local businesses and schools will have incentives to invest in their communities in order to provide the workforce needed for tomorrow.
By allowing parents to make choices over their child’s education, and teachers making choices without the influence of bureaucracy, both teachers and parents will take ownership of education. In the end, the child will be provided a quality education and be better prepared to face the challenges of tomorrow.
